Comparing two trajectories

The difference of two trajectories can be computed, stored in an XPF file and can be plot. A local projection is realized and the difference is computed on the three axis (North, East and Vertical) as well as in 2D horizontal and 3D.

This tool computes the distance from LEFT to RIGHT meaning that the calculation performed is Easting separation = Easting(RIGHT) – Easting(LEFT) and Northing separation = Northing(RIGHT) – Northing(LEFT).

1. Add two data files to a project (refer to How to add data file?
2. Drag and drop one channel to the other channel, both containing Latitude and Longitude fields.

3. Then the following window is displayed;

4. In General:
> edit the Label and the Target (name of the result XPF data file) if you wish.
> select the Join option for the linear interpolation between
Any: a difference is computed when at least one data set has a time value
Left: a difference is computed when the Left data set has a time value
Right: a difference is computed when the Right data set has a time value
Both: a difference is computed when both Right and Left data sets have a time value
5. In Period, select a period of time (between From to To) where the difference is computed.
6. In Left and Right, select (if not already selected) the two files (File name, Channel, Geographic field) to be subtracted from each other.
7. Click on Start button. At the end of the process, the difference file is loaded into the project and is displayed in the Variables panel::

8. Plot in the Time view the fields contained inside the Trajectory separation group.

The trajectory separation is visible in Northing, Easting, Vertical, Horizontal and 3D. For example:

If altitude is available in the two files, the trajectory separation is visible in altitude and in body.

The forward trajectory separation can be regarded as alongitudinal separation between the two compared trajectories.

The left trajectory separation can be regarded as a transversal separation between the two compared trajectories.
